Vision
"To create sustainable regeneration which allows all sections of the community to benefit from the regeneration of the area, the city and region"

About Us

NUCA is:

•  A community development trust working to promote regeneration in the Netherthorpe, Upperthorpe and Langsett areas of Sheffield

•  A company limited by guarantee and a charity

•  Is run and managed by the local community for the community

•  Has a membership of over 30 members and is open to all community and voluntary organisations in the local area

•  Managed by a board of Directors who are elected on a rotating basis at the Annual General Meeting. The Directors are all local residents or people who work in local community/voluntary organisations.

Netherthorpe and Upperthorpe Community Alliance (NUCA) was formed in 1998 to ensure greater community involvement in the regeneration of Netherthorpe and Upperthorpe. From its beginnings as a small community forum it is now serving Netherthorpe, Upperthorpe and Langsett areas of Sheffield .

We have successfully engaged with the local community through holding community conferences - in 1998, 2000 and 2003 - all attracting a record number of local people, plus public meetings, and other community consultation events and initiatives to ensure that Nuca's work reflects the views of the local community.

NUCA has developed and managed many key projects including:

• Upperthorpe Healthy Living Centre - with partners, Sheffield City Council and the Sheffield West Primary Care Trust, a £5 million scheme, has refurbished the existing three buildings to create a new community building.

•  Jobnet@Nuca - their team of Advice and Guidance Workers offer free and confidential support to residents looking to access job vacancies, help with CV's, application forms, interview skills and information on courses.

•  Netherthorpe & Upperthorpe Young People's Platform (NUYPP) - work with young people aged 8 to 25 years. They offer a range of confidential services including free sexual health advice and information, one-to-one support and a confidential referral service. They also run a full range of evening, half term and summer holiday youth playschemes throughout the year.

NUCA other key activities include:

•  Developing and managing projects and initiatives

•  Building community participation in area regeneration

•  Providing publicity and information

•  Forward planning for the Trust and the wider area regeneration

•  Linking to the local strategy to key citywide, regional and national strategies and programmes.
